Marley's Health Advice

Hey! My name is Marley and this is my health advice blog. Maintaining your health is easy when you are young. However, as you get older, you may develop illnesses and disorders as a result of your lifestyle choices. When I hit the age of 50 years old, I suddenly realised that I had a lot of problems which I had been ignoring for a long time. I decided to visit my doctor and seek help. Over the past year, I have worked closely with my doctor to improve my lifestyle and my health. I hope my blog inspires you to do the same.

Finding the Care That Suits You Best

Grace Henderson

Ageing may not be easy, but maintaining your independence is possible through the use of in-home health care services. Just as no two people are the same, each individual's health, level of ability and preferences about how they like to live are different. If you have been considering your options as ageing, illness or disability is making it harder to maintain your daily routine, you may want to consider the wide range of home health care services available in Australia.

What home care services can you access?

The great thing about home care is that is can be uniquely tailored to meet your individual needs, whatever they are. While some clients benefit from some assistance with general household tasks such as cleaning and shopping, others are more heavily reliant on their home care team for their personal care.

What is personal care?

Personal care involves providing assistance for anyone who, due to illness, ageing or disability, has trouble with their daily personal tasks. When you arrange to receive assistance with your personal care, a home care worker will come to your home at a pre-arranged time to assist you with a set of agreed-upon tasks. Some of these tasks might include:

  • Dressing

  • Grooming

  • Showering

  • Toileting

How often can you receive help with personal care?

The personal care services you receive can vary greatly in frequency. You and your home care team may decide you need help daily, or several times a day, just once a week or only during a short period of time in which your usual carer is away.

Personal care after a stay in hospital

A common time for many clients to use personal care services is after a stay in hospital. Most people prefer to recover at home after receiving surgery or other hospital treatments, and having a personal care team to assist you with these personal tasks will enable you to come home from hospital sooner and recover in the comfort of your own home.

Residential aged care or in-home care?

As maintaining one's lifestyle becomes more challenging, many people choose to engage a home care service to assist them at home, rather than moving into a residential aged care facility. Many people say they prefer this approach to meeting their needs, as arranging personal care services at home allows them to maintain their independence and remain living in their own home and neighbourhood, close to their family, friends and community.

Whatever you choose, know that the choice is truly yours and that, whatever your needs, there's a great option out there for you.
